On the 50th anniversary of independence of the African countries formerly occupied by Portugal, Batalha Centro de Cinema presents an exhibition curated by Kitty Furtado, researcher, activist and cultural critic whose work centres on memory, racism and colonial reparations. Independence Cinema brings together film material produced during the liberation process in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, examining the moving image as a tool of resistance, documentation and propaganda across a period of intense political and cultural transformation.
