Batalha Centro de Cinema presented the first solo exhibition in Portugal by American artist Tony Cokes, awarded the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 2024. Working with text, colour and sound, Cokes constructs a visual language that sets popular culture against critical theory, interrogating capitalism, coloniality and other structures of power. The exhibition brought together a new work made specifically for Batalha alongside a selection of canonical films from his career.
